Newborn Photographer in Asheville | Sweet Baby Lola

As a newborn photographer in Asheville whose past career was a labor and delivery nurse, I am innately drawn to photographing pregnant mamas and, later, their newborn babies. Holding and handling a newborn is second nature to me. It brings back so many memories. Not only from my L&D days, but from the days of my own two angels when they were that little. Visiting with babies I photograph definitely feeds the part of me that misses those days.

Newborn photos are – without question – high up on the list of photos you will never regret having (I will soon write a blog post why I think they are so important). I feel that it is equally important for you as a parent to be in the photos with your baby. At least a few. I like incorporating parents into the session whether it is in different rooms around the house or in front of a backdrop in a makeshift studio.

A few things to consider when hiring a newborn photographer…

There are many factors to consider when looking for and choosing a newborn photographer. It is very important not to choose a photographer for such an important task entirely based on a price. I do understand that pricing is a big decision-making factor, but should not be the only one! So, what other most important things should you consider?

The first thing to take note in your chosen photographer is their experience with newborns and knowledge of how to properly handle babies. Newborn photographers must know how to properly handle them. This is particularly important if any newborn posing will take place during the session. Sure, the photographer might be just starting out and that’s fine! But make sure they’ve had experience in handling newborns elsewhere, whether in another job, their own, etc.

Another factor to consider is the photographer’s style. Does the style of newborn photography matter to you? Are you looking for a strictly lifestyle session, which is more on the documentary side of photography? Or, are you interested more in highly posed newborn photos? Or perhaps something in between or both?

One last thing I’d like to mention, consider where the session will take place? Some photographers offer their studios while others will come to your home. Do you have a preference?

Now, let me introduce to you baby Lola and her parents.
