I took newborn baby photos of Eleanor back in May. The house was warm and quiet and little Eleanor quickly settled in her parents’ arms to start her newborn session. First, we took photos of Eleanor and her parents around the house, Then, I focused on photographing Eleanor alone. At that point she was very relaxed and happy making the rest of session a breeze. We only took a few little breaks to give her milk.

Eleanor, at the time of her newborn session, was 10 days new. The optimal time for newborn baby photos is within the first 14 days of baby’s life. Babies are very sleepy, flexible and generally free of newborn acne at this time. The sooner the better. I ask my clients to call me as soon as possible following delivery so we can arrange a day and time for the session. A newborn session is also best done in the morning hours. Not only this is a time when most babies sleep more soundly, but also they are generally happier. Afternoon can be very tricky as they tend to be more fussy at this time of day.
